Sony has announced the Sony NEX-5R, a new mirrorless interchangeable lens compact camera that serves as an update to the popular Sony NEX-5n. The Sony NEX-5R features the same 16MP CMOS sensor as its predecessor, and likewise offers full 1080p HD movie recording (60p) with stereo sound. An optional stereo microphone can be attached via the camera’s dedicated accessory shoe in order to provide even better quality sound with movie recording.

The Sony NEX-5R features a 3-inch 180-degree tilt-able touch control LCD screen for composing and playing back images and movies. Users can enjoy point and shoot simplicity by leaving the camera in basic Auto mode, or take advantage of the camera’s extensive manual override features for added creative control.
